Week 12 Reflections

This week I continued to work on completing the lesson plans and working on action research. I have found that the action research is going really well. I feel that the students are responding to the strategy. Throughout this process I felt that some of the students were gaining more from this process because of their attitudes. Other students I felt were having problems at home or something because they had become very defiant and did not want to work.
The different lessons that were taught during this week all went well. There are a couple things that I might have changed to make more of a difference for the students. I would have given them more manipulative to complete the math. We were working with money and it is a hard concept for the students. I want to help the students also with recognizing the different coins.
When working with the reading and spelling lessons, I felt that there was a big difference from the previous week to this week. I felt so much more confident about what I was planning to do and how I wanted to get to the final goal. When writing the different lessons for spelling, I decided to add the use of technology into the lessons. The students really enjoyed working with the computers and I found that it was very helpful for the students. Not only does it help with the students spelling, but helps with the coordination with typing.
When I told the kids that we were going to be using the computers they were so excited. They rarely get to use the computers. This was a key reason I wanted to have the work with it more. I think that it can really help the students and they should be allowed to use it.
When wring the different questions for the Reading test, I found that I was able to connect it back to the story more than the week before. I think it was because of the different type of story it was and allowed for simple questions.
I was very sad, when I had the questions so basic that one of the students still missed the question. My teacher explained to me that it happens and that the students wont always get things right and it will be okay. A large problem is that they are not focus and are easily distracted.

One of the most challenging things that I have experiences during this internship would have to be one of the students behavior. This student is having issues with is how to handle his out burst while still maintaining composure and the other student's behavior. I fear that the students lose out on their learning when this student gets out of hand. This will be an on going process and I will have to learn as we go.

Action Research, the results during this week four the students results are showing progress.
Student scores are 13, 12, 13, and 8. The schedule has remained the same and we are working with the different words and the students are enjoying their books.

This was a confusing week, we had to condense the action research time to Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays since I was not having enough time to complete the activities. I felt very rushed during this time.
The first time that we changed this I felt that I had so much more time to work with the students and really give them the time they needed.

This was also one of the first times assessing after the new strategy. The students responded so much better to this method and I am glad I changed.
This is why it is important to assess as you are teaching because you learn so much about the kids and the things that work for them and what does not.
